As you begin to envision your wedding day look, there’s much to consider, from style to comfort, the dress, your hair and makeup, shoes and accessories. The jewelry you choose to wear on your wedding day also plays a big role in your wedding day look and the look of your bridal party. With the help of local experts Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers as well as Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers, we have compiled our favorite wedding jewelry trends of 2016!
The centerpiece of your wedding day jewelry will likely be your engagement ring. Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers is noticing a trend in vintage-inspired details with modern updates.
“Rose gold is back in a big way and continues to increase in popularity,” shares Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers. “We are seeing many brides asking for the warmth of rose gold accents on their engagement rings mixed with white gold or platinum, and those who are bold enough are choosing engagement rings made of solid rose gold.”
“Yellow gold is starting to increase in popularity as well, but more brides are asking for rose gold for those who want something unique, yet timeless,” shares Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers.
“Rose gold accents add a hint of romance and unique detail,” agrees Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers.
Stackable wedding bands are also on the rise at J.F. Kruse Jewelers.
Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers explains that, “Many brides want to exercise their right to change their minds, so they are opting for stackable wedding bands to go with their engagement ring. This allows them to wear just one or a few of the stackable bands, or the entire set, depending upon their mood each day. Some brides are also incorporating the stackable band idea with their mother’s ring and having stackable rings to represent each member of their family.”
D.J. Bitzan Jewelers is seeing the incorporation of natural fancy colored diamonds in engagement rings. Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers, explains that, “Customized details add a personalized and rare touch, natural diamonds in soft pink are very rare.”
Heirloom jewelry continues to be a common trend for wedding day jewelry. “Wearing a piece with history from your family and pairing it with something "new to you" to create a special ensemble is a special way to make your jewelry more than just an accessory for your wedding. Pearls are a classic that many brides inherit and wear for their special day!” explains Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers.
Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers agrees, “Pearls came back this spring in a big way, and we’re seeing a much higher demand for them in wedding jewelry than ever before. Brides love chandelier earrings with pearls and diamonds and are getting studs and funky pearl bracelets for their wedding party.”
D.J. Bitzan Jewelers is also seeing floral details in wedding day jewelry. “Bohemian and whimsical, brides are choosing outdoor-inspired looks to complement the natural look and feel of their wedding style,” shares Erin Bitzan, owner of D.J. Bitzan Jewelers.
Ear cuffs and ear climbers are a BIG trend in earrings! “Brides want to be different and unique, yet still simple and classy – ear cuffs and ear climbers are increasing in demand because they are simple, yet very distinctive. They are also a fun alternative to diamond studs,” explains Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers.
For the wedding party, J.F. Kruse is seeing a rise in arm cuffs. “Ladies are cinching a couple higher up on their forearms like Selena Gomez (pictured below) or are letting them dangle off their wrists. We can engrave them as well, so they make a great wedding party gift!” shares Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J.F. Kruse Jewelers.
“Layering is extremely hot right now, both in wedding and in fashion jewelry. Many brides wear multiple necklaces, and many also choose simple initial pendants as gifts for their bridesmaids, layered with other fun necklaces (like below),” explains Melissa Kelley, owner and President of J. F. Kruse Jewelers.
